Artwork > Nature Inspired Art

Through abstracted, nature-based paintings, I try to depict my understanding of how the whole is reflected in the structure of the part. An example of this is how seeds and leaves contain a map for trees. I layered encaustic (wax) paint, glue, charcoal and collage elements to describe the process of nature. This process of change and transformation is supported by including found natural objects and recycled materials.

Over the years, the focus of my work has been nature-inspired vacillating between abstract images and at times more representational images such as landscapes. I’ve used common materials in the layers of encaustic paint to create beautiful, rich surfaces that explore the opacity and translucency of each painting. By focusing on the surface, I’ve come to understand more about the dynamics of painting with molten beeswax.
