Join artists and R&F Encaustic instructors Jodi Reeb & Bettina Egli Sennhauser for an intimate, deep-dive 3-day workshop in Bettina’s beautiful Encaustic Studio near Basel, Switzerland, focusing on using your photographs as collage and combining it with Encaustic.

We will be combining your photographs printed on tissue paper as collage with encaustic painting. The process involves inkjet or laser printing photographs on light-weight tissue paper and embedding the image with encaustic medium and paints. Image transfers will also be explored. Beautiful, translucent layers are created by adding oil pigment sticks above or below for color and depth.
In this workshop we will also discuss color theory and composition principles to strengthen your work, and there will be a lot of one-on-one studio time with both instructors to create and develop a body of work. The focus will be on creating imagery and expanding your voice with encaustic. Artists will build images layer-by-layer combining images printed on tissue paper and image transfers. You will gain confidence by pushing boundaries with individual feedback and inspiration.
We will also explore some of the many wonderful galleries and museums nearby - from over 250 and take a day trip across the border to visit Colmar, a beautiful and traditional Alsatian town in France.
The creative inspiration and fun will be all around you! It’s going to be wonderful!
This workshop is for those with some encaustic painting experience.

We have secured a group rate at the IBIS Basel Bahnhof Hotel and it is recommended you stay there for ease of transportation, etc. The hotel is conveniently located in the center of Basel and close to Bettina’s studio. Most places of interest are within walking distance from the hotel.
The costs for the hotel are not included in the fee. Please make a reservation directly either by phone or email at the hotel, mentioning the Code “Kunstfreiraum22072024”. The room reservation will be made on your credit card (guarantee). Your credit card will be charged upon Check-In.
Currency: CHF Swiss Francs conversion to US Dollars. I get Swiss Francs from my bank before I travel but you can convert USD at the airport. Visa credit cards are also accepted most places.
